If you've spent any time up in the Willits/Ukiah area, you've most likely heard about "the white deer." They were apparently brought to the region in the late 1940's when Charles Howard purchased a small herd from his friend, William Randolph Hearst (of Hearst Castle fame). The white deer are local legends. In fact, as a kid my bus route passed by where the white deer were most often seen, and every time the bus entered the area I would press my face to the glass in hopes of seeing them. It always felt like a good omen when I did. However, since taking up photography as an adult I have yet to even see them, let alone photograph them, until now.
